Much has been written about the digital divide and the ways and rates which different racial and ethnic groups access the Internet.  In this talk, Prof. Cohen will explore different and new ways of conceptualizing and measuring equality and participation through new media in the political realm.  In particular, she willl focus on how new media might allow for a re-imagining of key concepts in political science such as participation and equality.

Cathy Cohen is the David and Mary Winton Green Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. She is the founder of the Black Youth Project and author of The Boundaries of Blackness and Democracy Remixed. Her research focuses on political engagement by marginal communities.
