William H. Sewell Jr.’s new book, Capitalism and the Emergence of Civic Equality in 18th-Century France, was recently the subject of a review by David A. Bell in the London Review of Books. The book is one of four volumes published this year in the Chicago Studies in Practices of Meaning series, a collaboration between the University of Chicago Press and 3CT.

Cathy J. Cohen has received the 2021 Hanes Walton Jr. Career Award from the American Political Science Association. This honor recognizes “a political scientist whose lifetime of distinguished scholarship has made significant contributions to our understanding of racial and ethnic politics and illuminates the conditions under which diversity and intergroup tolerance thrive in democratic societies.”
