On Friday, November 9, 3CT fellow Dipesh Chakrabarty presented a lecture to UNESCO’s General Conference on the global public goods and how they need to be rethought in the face of the major disruptions the world is facing.

Inside Higher Ed published a review of Chakrabarty’s book One Planet, Many Worlds: The Climate Parallax (Brandeis University Press, 2023).

The Marguerite Casey Foundation has named Adom Getachew one of its 2023 Freedom Scholars. This initiative recognizes “leaders in academia whose research provides critical insight from and to social justice leaders and whose ideas encourage us to imagine how we can radically improve our democracy, economy and society.”

Cathy J. Cohen will share perspectives on free expression during the keynote conversation for the launch of the University of Chicago’s Forum for Free Inquiry and Expression on October 5–6, 2023. For this panel, moderated by President Alivisatos, Cohen will be in conversation with Jonathan Haidt, Mary Dana Hinton, and Nadine Strossen.

The American Studies Association awarded 3CT fellow Cathy Cohen the 2023 Angela Y. Davis Prize for outstanding public scholarship, noting that her “leadership within and beyond the university is marked by a collective ethos that aims to empower new voices, develop the capacities of those around her, and pursue the collective will…” Congratulations, Cathy!

Rochona Majumdar was quoted in a New York Times article about an online service that tourists use to pay to attend weddings in India.

Majumdar was awarded the Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Award for best writing on cinema. Congratulations, Rochona!
