Long an outsider to artistic and intellectual credibility, fashion has in recent years burst onto the scene in the academy, at the museum, and among the fine arts. What does the new prominence of fashion suggest about our present moment? And especially because the vitality and allure of fashion have always owed something to its outsider status, what are the implications of this change for fashion itself? Where does fashion go from here?
Please join us for a lively conversation on fashion’s ascendancy and its possible futures. Participants include the internationally renowned, Chicago-based designer Maria Pinto; the groundbreaking fashion historian Caroline Evans (Central St Martins, London); and local fashion design educator and curator Caroline Bellios (School of the Art Institute of Chicago). Tim Campbell (English, UChicago) will moderate.
