Future Café is a student-organized series that provides the opportunity and space for undergraduates to collectively imagine utopian possibilities and long-term futures. University of Chicago undergraduate students, please join us for our next meeting to discuss the future of home over pizza and refreshments.
Home is a concept that haunts the histories of settled societies. On an individual level, it can mean comfort and familiarity; on a national level, it can evoke duty and affinity; and in utopian visions, it can represent acceptance and inclusion. Yet, we live in a world that sees all of these conceptions challenged, whether by the advent of globalization, the scarcity of affordable housing, or the incursion of ecological crisis on a planetary home. In this light, can we imagine a utopian concept of home for the future? Will home represent a provincial withdrawal from crisis, or can it help unify disparate groups in a common struggle?
Future Café events are open to all undergraduate students at the University of Chicago. No prior knowledge of the topic of discussion is required, nor is there “homework.”
This event is free and open to all University of Chicago undergraduate students. It will be held in person and registration is recommended.
