Less Than 3 Minutes // Khaled Abdul Wahed
February 27 2014
Mr. Abdul Wahed will talk about the way in which images have been used by the official and unofficial media on both sides in the Syrian civil war. The talk will focus particular attention on the formative role that images have played in the conflict, sometimes surpassing the power of the real experiences themselves.
Abdul Wahed began his career as a graphic designer working for international advertising agencies. He left the advertising world in 2008 and devoted himself to art, especially fine art photography. When the revolution broke out in Syria he turned to video art to chronicle the conflict because he found it a more expressive medium. These videos have been screened in film festivals across Europe, the Middle east, and Canada, for example at the Berlin Art Biennale, at the George Pompidou Center in Paris, the Montreal film festival, and the Milan film festival. Abdul Wahed is currently working on his first documentary film.
