Deadline Extended: 2024 Lauren Berlant 3CT Graduate Student Conference Organizing Opportunity
The deadline for proposals has been extended to Sunday, October 15.
3CT invites proposals from graduate students interested in organizing the next Lauren Berlant 3CT Graduate Student Conference, to be held in Spring 2024.
The conference is named in honor of longtime 3CT fellow Lauren Berlant. Conference themes need not engage directly with Berlant’s work; we ask that they reflect Berlant’s commitment, and that of 3CT, to fostering new forms of theorizing the contemporary world. This fourth annual conference builds on the success of our first three events; most recently, Power over Life and Death: Feminism, Abolition, and the State was held in April 2023.
The opportunity to organize the conference is open to all graduate students enrolled at the University of Chicago in the 2023–24 academic year. Interdisciplinary proposals involving collaboration across departments are especially encouraged. Conference presenters may be graduate students at any institution.
3CT staff will work with organizers of the selected conference to coordinate and publicize the event, and the center will provide funding up to $10,000.
Proposals should include the following:
- Name(s) of organizer(s)
- Conference title
- Conference abstract (maximum 500 words)
- Format and names of potential speakers
- Budget, including details of possible co-sponsors
Send completed proposals as a single PDF to Anna Searle Jones, 3CT’s associate director, at annasj@uchicago.edu. The deadline has been extended to Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 11:59pm.
Please contact Anna with any questions or to discuss your proposal ahead of the deadline.
