Call for Proposals: The Lauren Berlant 3CT Graduate Conference

The Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT) invites proposals for the Lauren Berlant Graduate Conference, to be held during Spring quarter weeks 2-4 (March 28–April 17, 2022). The annual graduate student conference is now named in honor of longtime 3CT fellow Lauren Berlant and builds on the success of our inaugural event, Antipolitics: From New Anarchisms to the Alt-Right, which took place in February 2021.

We seek proposals from individual students or groups on any themes that reflect 3CT’s commitment to theorizing the present. This opportunity is open to all graduate students currently enrolled at the University of Chicago. Interdisciplinary proposals involving organizers and participants across departments are especially encouraged. Conference presenters may be graduate students at any institution.

3CT staff will work with organizers of the selected conference to coordinate and publicize the event, and the center will provide funding up to $10,000.

Proposals should include the following:

  • Name(s) of organizer(s)
  • Conference title
  • Conference abstract (maximum 500 words)
  • Format and names of potential presenters
  • Budget

Send completed proposals to Anna Searle Jones, 3CT Associate Director, at annasj@uchicago.edu by 9:00am CT on Friday, October 29, 2021.

Please contact Anna with any questions or to discuss your proposal ahead of the deadline.
