3CT Dissertation Writing Group
Fridays beginning October 11, 9:00am–12:00pm, Foster 107
3CT is launching a new dissertation writing group this fall, organized by graduate students Helen Galvin Ross and Burak Tan, with the aim of building intellectual community and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. These weekly sessions are open to PhD candidates and those very close to candidacy across the social sciences and humanities who engage with contemporary critical theory in their work or those whose work is motivated by the central mission of 3CT to “theorize the present.” Students from elsewhere in the university whose projects align with 3CT are encouraged to reach out to Burak and Helen with a description of their interests.
The writing group will convene in Foster 107 from 9:00am to noon on Fridays beginning October 11. Sessions will open with thirty-minute group discussions on the particular challenges members have been experiencing either in terms of the mechanics of their writing (the flow of arguments and the structure of chapters) or their broader theoretical concerns (literature suggestions or competing methodological approaches), with ultimate attention to unexpected and productive resonances and collaboration across disciplines. We will then continue with two fifty-minute writing sessions with ten-minute breaks, following the Pomodoro method, and then have an open half hour at the end either for a final writing block or for collaborative reflection and goal setting for the next week. Drinks and snacks will be provided throughout!
Please contact Helen and Burak with any questions. Registration is not required, but we would appreciate potential participants expressing interest here.
