You Must Listen to This Before Continuing

This talk imagines a space in which it is possible to engage the social world inventively through sets of demands that may be spoken, sung or knotted together.  Speaking through the language of sociology, in particularly a concern with live and inventive methods, as well as an object-making practice which is indebted to fine art, this presentation will investigate the challenges of working/worlding between disciplines when the concern is to revisit previous feminist working/worlding without allowing ourselves to feel merely superior and better than. Using feminist struggles in the UK in the 1980s as a starting point, and thinking through the promise of ‘temporal drag’ as suggested by Elizabeth Freeman, this talk will look at ways in which we might use embarrassment and ambivalence as inventive methods.
