In this lecture, building on the ideas presented in his book Global Palestine, Collins explores Palestine as a prophetic and microcosmic node within a larger global system. Paul Virilio’s concept of “war on the milieu,” when put in dialogue with key insights from the growing body of scholarship in comparative settler colonial studies, can help us conceptualize the nature of this system as an ongoing struggle between the structures of permanent war and the local practices of popular defense and everyday occupation.

This event is co-sponsored by the Divinity School Dean’s Office, the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory (3CT), the Center for International Studies’ Norman Walt Harris Fund, and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
