Fall 2026 Marx + Theory Reading Group

Please note: Registration is now closed.

—

3CT’s Marx + Theory reading group continues in Fall 2026 with August Nimtz’s Black Marxism: A Marxist Critique (Monthly Review, 2026). Over four Tuesdays in October and November, we will meet for lunchtime seminars to discuss Nimtz’s book in conversation with Cedric Robinson’s Black Marxism: The Making of the Black Radical Tradition (University of North Carolina Press, 1983). Professor Nimtz will join us for a public lecture on November 18, with a seminar for this reading group the following day.

The reading group is open to University of Chicago PhD students, post-docs, and faculty, and registration is required. Capacity is limited, so we ask that participants do their best to attend the full program.

Reading group dates:

  • Discussion 1: Tuesday, October 13, 12:30–1:50pm
  • Discussion 2: Tuesday, October 20, 12:30–1:50pm
  • Discussion 3: Tuesday, November 3, 12:30–1:50pm
  • Discussion 4: Tuesday, November 10, 12:30–1:50pm
  • Nimtz seminar: Thursday, November 19, 12:30–1:50pm

Marx + Theory is facilitated by 3CT fellows Anton Ford and Gabriel Winant. Questions may be directed to ccct@uchicago.edu.
