Call for Papers: Critical Social Theory Working Group
Critical Social Theory employs a variety of analytic lenses (Marxist, Psychoanalytic, Poststructuralist, New Historicist, Feminist, Queer, Critical Race, Affect, Futurism, among other emerging frameworks) to illuminate and interrupt the underlying technologies and structures of violence that shape our everyday. It aims to identify forms of exploitation and oppression while offering liberating alternatives, by tracing how infrastructures can conceal and normalize the violences on which they depend. Through research methods such as ethnography, close reading, cultural criticism, archival work, digital humanities, and empirical analysis, Critical Social Theory studies media, literature, institutions, states, ecologies of extraction, and networks of production and consumption.
The 3CT Critical Social Theory Working Group welcomes submissions from UChicago graduate students and postdocs across the humanities and social sciences whose research explores the underlying forces of social life and works toward 3CT’s broader goal of theorizing the present. This working group aims to provide a productive space for graduate students and postdocs to share their work and receive feedback from across disciplinary boundaries, methodological commitments, and theoretical traditions. We invite projects such as dissertation chapters, book chapters, and articles.
The working group will meet on select Mondays, 10:00–11:00am, in Foster 107.
