A Message from 3CT
3CT stands in solidarity with the Black community and all those who have found themselves subjected to the negative effects of white supremacy. We are appalled by the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, David McAtee, and too many others. We affirm our support to all of those who are protesting, raising their voices against structural racism, inequity, and injustice. We join with our allies who call for the demilitarization of the University of Chicago campus, and we demand that any officers guilty of police violence or excessive use of force be held accountable.
In lieu of this week’s planned Reading, Writing, Listening list, we are sharing just a few of the many important resources others have put together to further the work of dismantling systemic racism and white supremacy.
- An Antiracist Reading List
- Reading Towards Abolition: A Reading List on Policing, Rebellion, and the Criminalization of Blackness
- 26 Ways to Be in the Struggle Beyond the Streets
Of course, reading, writing, and listening are only part of this urgent work. 3CT’s mission is to foster conversations, collaborations, and pedagogy that theorize the contemporary in enlivening, empirically grounded ways. Our aim is to bring an interpretive understanding to our times, undertaking our analyses in terms of situation, structure, history, ideology, affect, discourse, and feeling. As a Center, we are committed to using all the tools and methods at our disposal to antiracist ends.
