Cathy J. Cohen will serve as chair of the new Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity (RDI). A political scientist who has produced groundbreaking scholarship at the intersection of race, class, politics, and sexuality, Cohen has previously served as chair of the Department of Political Science and as director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture. She was also the University’s first deputy provost for Graduate Education.

Cohen will also deliver the 2022 Ryerson Lecture on Tuesday, May 3. Titled “Democratic Futures?: Race, Resistance and Political Vulnerability,” the lecture will examine what political insights and possibilities might emerge when we center the ideas of race and vulnerability.
