Future Café is a student-organized series that provides the opportunity and space for undergraduates to collectively imagine utopian possibilities and long-term futures. University of Chicago College students, please join us for our next meeting to discuss the future of museums over pizza, guacamole, and chips.

Museums, in all their diverse iterations, are at a turning point where budget cuts, artificial intelligence, and the “culture wars” are threatening their very existence. But what lies far ahead? How will technology continue to upend or reify museum practices? Will it be freed from its geography and be launched into the metaverse or, rather, will a hybridity emerge? In the case of repatriation, how will the legacies of pillage be reconciled or reimagined? Will museums continue to be sites of cultural history and memory, or will they evolve into something else entirely? What should we expect as visitors or participants far into the future?

This event is free and open to all University of Chicago undergraduate students; registration is recommended.
