How One Works: A Film Screening, Lecture, and Conversation

This event will begin with a screening of The Laughing Alligator (1979), filmed by Chilean director Juan Downey during his time with the Yanomami, as well as clips from The Ax Fight (1975, Asch & Chagnon).  The screening will be followed by a discussion of the films and an essay by Taussig entitled “The Corn Wolf: Writing Apotropaic Texts.”

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies, the Department of Anthropology, the Franke Institute for the Humanities, the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory, and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture.
